Until then, stay safe, keep loving each other and have a Merry Christmas!!!!

Let's show the debut authors support! If you don't see their books on the shelf, please ask the clerk to order it.

Please take the time to review the procedures for the Emmas on our website. We still need additional judges.

RSJ Book Signing

A few of the people who have not attended a Slam Jam before have asked if it is okay to bring books they've bought over the years to have signed. Simple answer: YES!

You know you have a bookshelf full of novels by many of the authors who will be attending the RSJ. Bring them on!

Hmmm, maybe we should run a contest where whoever brings the most books to have signed wins a copy of their favorite author's next book.  Hmmm that sounds like a good plan.

And there will be a book vendor at the conference.

Early Bird Registration

Early Bird Registration and group registration end December 31 2007. Please note that when you pay using PayPal the prices are slightly higher because of the processing fees.

When your registration fee is received, a confirmation email is sent. If you've snail mailed your fee, but haven't heard from me, please check your junk mail folder. The confirmation will come from deatri@romanceslamjam.org

Hotel Reservations

I've taken down the option of reserving your hotel room online because the hotel's web reservations is having difficulties. So please call and reserve your rooms directly. The hotel phone number is (847)297-1234. Remember to let the clerk know you are reserving your room for the Romance Slam Jam Conference (Check in 30 April – 4 May 2008).

And yes I HIGHLY suggest you check in Wednesday night. If you would like to check in a day early to enjoy the city, you can reserve the room for 29 April also for the discounted rate. ENJOY CHICAGO!!!

Memory Book

A few people have asked if I still want submissions for the Memory Book. YES! Don't be scuuuuuurd. Give us your take on the Romance Slam Jam. Why do you attend? What is your favorite part...? Email submissions to deatri@romanceslamjam.org

I'm also looking for articles to place in the Romance Slam Jam Newsletter. This is our newsletter. For us by us. Do you have a story about a real life romance? Send it on. What about a signing you attended, event such as the Pajama Parties Beverly Jenkins throws or the Marvelously Mature events Evelyn Palfrey holds. Is there a trend in romance you like or don't like you want to write about?  Send your articles, interviews on!

I am so excited about the upcoming Romance SlamAlice Wootson Jam!! This is the one conference where I feel I can relax and enjoy myself. It is great to be among 'us' and not having to be 'on' at all times. The readers are good for my ego and spur me to continue to write the best I can.

My first Slam Jam was in Orlando after the release of my first novel, Snowbound with Love. I have only missed one since then. The fact that I'll be the Keynote Speaker is just icing on the cake. I'm looking forward to seeing folks I have already met and meeting new friends.

On Five coverThe 2008 event will be my first Romance Slam Jam. I'm very much looking forward to the experience as both a reader and an author. As a reader, I'm excited by the prospect of meeting authors I've admired for years. I'm also looking forward to talking with other readers who are familiar with the authors I enjoy and who've read the same books I've read. As an author, I'm grateful for the opportunity to meet and thank readers whose enthusiasm has helped our industry grow and proven there is a strong, supportive market for our stories.

An Affaire To Remember

A few weeks ago I (Deatri) received a copy of the Sept/Oct issue of Affaire de Coeur magazine. I’ll be honest, I haven’t read a magazine in…a really long time. But I saw Janice Sims on the cover and just HAD to read the interview. Next thing I know, I’m reading romance book reviews, adding books to my purchase list and enjoying the articles when I come across (drum roll please) a review of my June novel Whisper Something Sweet. Now I’ve known of Affaire de Coeur for years, but I never really knew them.

I put on my little business cap and contacted Louise Snead, the Editor in Chief of Affaire de Coeur, to ask her about being a Romance Slam Jam sponsor. Okay, I’m going to be quiet now. Dyanne Davis will take it from here. An Affaire To Remember

Last Words

I'm back! Ann Clay is still seeking volunteers to help at the Romance Slam Jam. Email her at volunteers@romanceslamjam.org and give a helping hand.

We have two more authors who will be guests for the Intimate Sessions: Barbara Keaton and Lisa G. Riley. When you fill out your registration form remember to select which Intimate session you'd like to attend.

Allow me to introduce you to debut author Michele Never Say NeverCameron. Her romance novel Never Say Never is due in major bookstores early January. Let's welcome her to the romance family by going out and showing some serious support in the stores. If you don't see her novel on the bookshelves by mid-January, please ask the clerk to order it for the store.

If you know of other debut authors of Black romance, let me know so I can spread the word. We're all read-a-holics here. I feel it is my duty to help support your addiction (SMILE).

See you at the Slam Jam!

MERRY CHRISTMAS
