Miriam and I attended our first Slam Jam in 2000 in Orlando. The whole experience was like a dream. Our books were featured and we thought we were celebrities--that's how nice everyone was. That experience is what kept J.M. Jeffries going. This was the first conference where we were able to meet our readers face to face. And we have to admit, although it was nerve-wracking, it was as insightful as it was thrilling. Because sometimes when a writer sits in their cave writing their books, they forgot other people besides the reader is going to read them.
Slam Jam 2000 was an eye-opener. We met readers, other writers, and discovered a kinship with people who love books as much as we do. And Miriam and I were able to worship at the altar of our favorite authors.

Slam Jam is the one conference we look forward to every year, even if it goes to Outer Mongolia. Maybe not Miriam, because it's cold. She likes her warmth.
Slam Jam was a whole different experience. Besides being relaxed and comfortable, it was an opportunity to go in a direction we didn't think possible.
Since then, Miriam and I have attended every Slam Jam. Slam Jam is one place where we feel we belong, because Slam Jam matters. Slam Jam is the one place writers can go and talk to readers, sit down and find out what they want.
Slam Jam changed the direction J.M. Jeffries had originally intended to go. This change in our career changed the people we are as writers. Thank you. We look forward to seeing everyone in Chicago. Actually, Miriam isn't attending because of a health issue, but will be there in spirit.

Much Love,
Jackie Hamilton aka J.M. Jeffries, aka Simone Harlow
