RSJ 2010 Reading List

Happy May everyone and Happy Mother's day to those of you nurturing our young!

Instead of the usual workshop and reader sessions we have at the Slam Jam, during our Anniversary Cruise we are going to do things a little differently and have book discussions. Below please find the link for the reading list. Many of the titles will be coming out over the next few months, and others are some of our favorites.

RSJ 2010 Reading List

Reminder: RSJ Conference registration and booking your cabin on the cruise are separate. Be sure to do both.
Black Romance Book Club

A billion and one thanks go out Sweet n' Sassy for moderating a fantastic book discussion with Victoria Wells.  We all had a gooood ol' time over at the
Black Romance Book Club discussion of When Love Comes Around. A special thanks out to everyone who participated. Without you there'd be no book club.

If you haven't read this novel, be sure to pick it up and give it a try.

Next we've decided to tackle two novels. Don't worry, the discussions won't start until June 26, so you have plenty of time to enjoy both novels.

The June novels for discussion are:

No One But You by Maureen Smith

Once You've Touched the Heart by Iris Bolling

Come on and join in on the fun!

Our online book club is hosted at http://www.shelfari.com. You'll need to sign up for a membership, which is free, and join the Black Romance Book Club.

While we are on the subject of book clubs:

The Founder of BBW Reviews has created a book club for those interested in reading books with plus-sized characters. If you are interested in joining this online book club, please follow the link: Big Curvy Books

It's Official

At RSJ 2008, attendees were introduced to the  Romance Slam Jam Organization. Each year the hosts literally had to start from scratch, the attendees had to figure out where the information about the conference was located and maintaining consistency was virtually impossible.

With the blessings of the RSJ Founders, the RSJ Organization was created to help us stay connected, maintain the vision and ensure consistency as the RSJ family grows.

The RSJ Organization began working behind the scenes  in 2007, laying the groundwork for future endeavors and it is my pleasure to announce that we passed a major milestone. The Romance Slam Jam Organization is now a non-profit, tax-exempt organization recognized by the Federal government. In other words we have been granted 501(c)(3) status.

One of the major hurdles past Slam Jams have had difficulty leaping over was finding sponsors. Now that the organization has been granted 501(c)(3) status, donations are tax deductable, which will make finding corporate sponsors easier.

Stay Tuned.

You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet.

A Few Words From Patricia Sargeant

I hope everyone is well and making plans to enjoy the summer! I plan to get some serious relaxation - and reading - in now that I have a break in my writing deadlines.

I'm truly pleased and excited to share with you information about my two releases for your summer reading consideration.

My first contemporary romance, Sweet Deception, is a June 2009 release. The theme is female empowerment and identity. The story features a dutiful minister's daughter who leads a secret life as an erotic romance author. When her identity is revealed, she's forced to choice between duty and desire - to choose between the person her family wants her to be and who she really is.

I've also contributed a short story to a multi-author benefits anthology. Tails of Love is a romance anthology featuring original short stories from 10 authors: Lori Foster, Stella Cameron, Dianne Castell, Kate Angell, Ann Christopher, Marcia James, Donna MacMeans, Sarah McCarty, Sue-Ellen Welfonder and me. All of the authors and our agents are donating all of our proceeds to a no-kill animal shelter. This project also will hopefully raise awareness for the plight of abandoned and abused animals and pets.

If you pick up either of these titles, I'd love to know what you think.

Happy reading!

Patricia Sargeant
