December  2009 Newsletter
It's Emma Time!

Hey, hey, it’s that time of year again. Break out that reading list and get to nominating your favorite Black romance titles from January 2008 through October 2009 (sorry no eBooks). If you attended the Slam Jam in 2008 or will be going on 2010 RSJ Anniversary Cruise, then what are you waiting for?

Sorry, but e-books are not eligible. We know that some e-books come out in print. Once they are released in print, the print version is eligible and the publishing date is the date it was released in print.

Please do not nominate titles that are not Black romance or published during the correct time period.

2010 Emma Nomination Form

Steppin' On Some Toes

I debated saying this, but it really does need to be said.

Every year after the Emma Awards, grumbles and gripes about the Emma process and the Emma Honorees literally ruins the night for many. There are authors and readers who refuse to attend another Slam Jam because of the ugliness that follows the awards ceremony. And I don’t care that other awards have the same issue. They are not the RSJ Family. You, the attendees, are the nominators, you are the judges, you are everything in the process except the accounting firm.

Romance is looked down upon, and Black romance... Need I say more? We are torn down enough without members of our family ripping at us. Help stop it before it starts. If you hear someone starting to spew the all to familiar hate, then please excuse yourself from the conversation and let the others know why.

Okay, I’m done. I'll step down from ye ol' soapbox. SMILE.

Black Romance Online Book Club

Last month we discussed A Marriage of Convenience with Jewel Amethyst. I know I say this a lot, but if you haven’t read this title, you need to. It was OUTSTANDING. And yes, we had, yet another, ball. What are you waiting for? Join the Black Romance Online Book Club.

We also talked about eReaders and got all types of fantastic information. Oh and let’s not forget the discussion we had about are “Black” characters in Black romance “Black” enough. Like I said, what are you waiting for. We discuss books and a whole lot more.

Our next scheduled book discussion will be a double feature. Bittersweet Love and Sweet Deception by Rochelle Alers. The discussion for both titles will be January 22, 2010. Rochelle will be there to help bring in the New Year.

Come on and join in on the fun. I know you want to talk about some of these books we're reading with others who enjoyed them. We don't wait until book discussion day. We keep the party going all month long.

Our online book club is hosted at http://www.shelfari.com. You'll need to sign up for a membership, which is free, and join the Black Romance Book Club.

At It Again

Hello RSJ family,

Dyanne always does an excellent job with the RSJ Blog and this month is no different. She used her super-duper blogger abilities to track down many of the players in the of the Destination Romance Series. This is all of our project, I hope you take the time to go on over to our Blog and help celebrate this accomplishment.

There were so many interviews they would not all fit on the front page. Be sure to click the view older post in the lower right hand corner.

Until next month, enjoy!

Destination Romance

Each year we try to have a raffle to raise money for a non-profit organization. This year we did things a little different. Instead of taking a chance at winning a raffle prize, everyone is a winner when they purchase any title from the Destination Romance Series. All proceeds go to the South Side Help Center, an HIV/AIDS prevention intervention and education program for African American women in Chicago. African American women are the fastest growing population being diagnosed with HIV and/or AIDS.

We still need your support in raising funds for the charity. The individual titles are available in eBook form for only $2.99. With six authors, there is something for everyone. If you haven’t tried an eBook before, here’s a chance. And when you order a book from Red Rose (the publisher for the Destination Romance Series) they usually have a free eBook you can also pick up. So you get twice the goodies!

A print version of the anthology (all six titles will be included) will be available December 17. The preorder form is under works as we speak. Please help spread the word about this wonderful cause. Hey, Christmas is coming up. Do you know a literary snob who looks down on romance? Well this would be the perfect gift for them. Same goes for anyone who loves a great story. Six styles, Six outstanding authors, six fantastic stories, one fantastic cause! Thank you for your support.

FYI: Two of the titles from Destination Romance are part of the Rawsistaz Holiday Reading Challenge. The discussions will be online in blog format, so you can drop by any time of day to say a little something, something.
