August  2009 Newsletter
It's Hot Out Here

It’s already August and pretty soon many of you will be heading on over to Michigan for Beverly Jenkins’ Pajama Party. Y’all have a good time, take pictures and be sure to give us alllll the scoop on the RSJ Blog. Contact Dyanne Davis (davisdyanne@aol.com) with all the goodies.

If you haven’t signed up for the cruise, but plan on going, please do sign up now. Last I checked, there are only three cabins left. Those of you who are in a cabin by yourself, may want to consider getting a cabin mate. That will reduce your costs of the cabin. If you need assistance finding a cabin mate, contact me at deatri@romanceslamjam.org.

I’ve found a hotel! It will be $99 for the one night (9 April). It’s only two miles from the airport (transportation between the airport and hotel are free), and it has a shuttle to the Carnival Pier for $10. I’m still in negotiations with the hotel trying to arrange busses to take us all to the pier and also someplace for our book signing. I know many of you will be tired from traveling (I know I will be), so I’d like to have the book signing at the hotel the evening of April 9th. I'll email a blast from the RSJ News account when arrangements are finalized.

Black Romance Online Book Club

We have three books coming up for reading and discussion in our Online Bookclub.

Sweet Deception by Patricia Sargeant will be the first. We'll have the discussion 14 August. Patricia will be here with us.

Next up we'll be reading a book by a man. Hopefully we can get more male participation in the chats.

We'll Discuss Always a Knight by Wayne Jordan in early September

Last but not least, we'll discuss Body By Night by Zuri Day in September.

We have discussions throughout, so please drop on by any ol' time. Tell us what you are reading and what reading events you've been going to. Recommend a little somethin' somethin'.

Come on and join in on the fun. I know you want to talk about some of these books we're reading with others who enjoyed them.

Our online book club is hosted at http://www.shelfari.com. You'll need to sign up for a membership, which is free, and join the Black Romance Book Club.

At It Again

I’d like to take a moment to extend a BIG ‘Thank You.’ Deatri put out an SOS and the authors came pouring out. It felt like Christmas and believe me it came at just the right moment. I was seriously considering ending the blog.

The intent of the blog is to keep the RSJ family connected and up to date on what’s happening with the authors and readers. It was meant to be our bridge between visits. Deatri tells me that you’re stopping by, if you could say hello it would be most appreciated.

To the readers: This newsletter is for you. I would love to feature a reader each month along with the authors. As Dee would say, “Don’t be scuuuurd.” I won’t bite. Write me and let’s have some fun. davisdyanne@aol.com

To the authors: Again thank you for your support. I will notify you when your interviews will be up in the coming months.

This month, as always, I’m really proud to present interviews by two fantastic authors. One many of you know, Shirley Hailstock, and the second is a newer author I'm sure many of you will get to know, Iris Bolling.

Now head on over to the RSJ Blogspot and show our contributors some love.

Until next month, enjoy,

Dyanne Davis
