RSJ 2010 Registration is Open! |
Happy April everyone!
I hope that freakin', confounded Conficker virus didn’t disturb your
online activities. I mean really, don’t people have anything better
to do with their time. Sheeesh, I need to send those folks a few
Black romance novels. That aught to keep them busy.
Anywhooooo, Cruise Registration and RSJ Conference registration are
two different things.
Registration for RSJ 2010 is open! Don’t delay in registering
for the conference, which will feature Rochelle Alers as the keynote
speaker and many of our favorite authors of Black romance who will
be holding book discussions of titles they’ve written over the past
fifteen years. So dust off those oldies but goodies! Most of the
authors are still deciding what book they wish to discuss, so I’ll
hold off a bit longer before posting the list of novels to be
discussed on the cruise. If you’d like to suggest a novel or two to
the
attending authors, let me know and I’ll forward your
suggestions.

We are all excited to set sail on our adventurous Romance Slam Jam
Crystal Anniversary Cruise to Ocho Rios, Jamaica and Grand Cayman,
Cayman Islands in April 2010. But why wait until then for the fun to
start? Let’s get in the traveling mood with a Travel Writing Contest
relating to the theme: “Always On My Mind: My Most Memorable Trip.”
Win a Travelers Survival Basket filled with books, movies, music,
travel journal and other fun essentials!
Share your treasured stories with your fellow “Slam Jammers.” We
want to hear about your best and worst journeys, your falling in
love, your near-death experiences, when you were robbed, lost your
luggage, family reunion gone wild, even when you got arrested. We
want all the juice. If you have electronic photos or scanned copies
of your airline tickets, postcards, stamps, admission tickets,
travel journal, foreign money, bail money receipt to illustrate your
escapades, well that’s even better!
All publishable entries will be published in
the newsletter as we receive them. Entries will be judge by Travel
Experts (vagabond, flight attendant, travel agent, fugitive) and
Editors. Judging criteria are ability to capture the sense of the
location, ability to engage the reader, overall quality of writing,
creativity and—where appropriate—humor.
Grand Prize Winner will be announced in July’s
Newsletter.

Time to look into the future. In honor of our
Crystal Anniversary, I've purchased a crystal ball.
I've read the instructions and thought I'd give
it a try....I see, I see future Slam Jams.
It's April 2010 we honor Black Romance with the
help of Rochelle Alers, other attending authors and the Romance Slam
Jam Family.
The image is changing...getting a little
blurry. Clearer, clearer...I see the Sweet Soul Sisters and A.C.
Author welcoming people.
It's...2011 and we're out East celebrating
Black romance in Baltimore...
The image is changing...There are the Sistahs
of Color Reading group and Laura Parker Castaro with open arms.
It's 2012 and we are in the south...Little Rock
to be exact.
APRIL FOOLS. I don't have a crystal ball, but
future Slam Jams are scheduled to be in the places listed above. If
your book club would like to host the Slam Jam, contact
deatri@romanceslamjam.org
