Also don’t forget First Book, our charity for Slam Jam 2009. Let’s help put new books in the hands of under-privileged children. We’re putting together some fantastic raffle baskets that you’ll have the chance to win! To learn more about First Book visit First Book.org

Imagine

Imagine if you will, if you could ask your favorite authors questions about their books and their future projects, what would you ask. I know some of the questions I would ask. So L.A. Banks, how much of yourself to you put into your fabulous stories? Donna Hill, where do you get your inspiration? And Kayla Perrin, I love your characters are they from imagination or real life.

One of the many great ideas that came out of the Chicago Slam Jam was the birth of the intimate sessions. Limited to ten people these sessions were designed to give the reader a chance to rill their favorite author on past and future projects.

So, for the second year in a row, Slam Jam is proud to provide readers with intimate contact, (ooh, didn’t that sound a little naughty…but in a fun way) I mean sessions, with your favorite authors. Join us and be prepared to ask those simmering, insightful, no holds barred questions you’ve been dying to ask.

Author contact is one of the things that is great about Slam Jam because we build in a means to have personal contact with your favorite authors, and you get to see them not only as a writer, but a person. When you register, please remember let us know which author is your choice.
Be prepared for a great Slam Jam experience. Can’t wait to see each and everyone one of you in Los Angeles in 2009.

Last year’s RSJ Aspiring Author Competition drew dozens of extremely talented aspiring authors. Every now and again, I ask the authors what they are up to. You know, checking on the babies.

Anywhooooo, we have big news from our last year’s winner, LaVerne Thompson. Her debut novel has been released!

Congratulations LaVerne. Head on over to our blogspot and leave a congratulations and don’t forget to order a copy of her novel.

Now you know we couldn't just leave you with one fantastic check in from one of the family. Nah, I know how much you look forward to Dyanne's crazy questions. SMILE.

This month she is all up in Evelyne Palfrey, Seressia Glass and Jackie Hamilton's business.

Again, please leave comments for the authors so we know you've been there. Even if it's just to say HI.

2009 Emma Awards

Only one month left until we start nominations for the Emma awards! Now I know you’ve been keeping track of your favorite Black romance novels and authors. If you attended the RSJ 2008 Conference or are registered for RSJ 2009 conference, you are eligible to make nominations.

Now we all love Beverly Jenkins and Brenda Jackson, but both of these fantastic authors have won the lifetime achievement award and asked not to have their novels entered in the competition, and the Romance Slam Jam Organization will respect their wishes. So please consider this when making your nominations.

Don’t forget about the debut authors such as LaVerne Thompson, Michele Cameron, Kelley Nyrae, Yolande McVey and Niambi Davis. If you haven’t read their books, run to the bookstore, library, Amazon and get to reading (SMILE).

We are seeking judges for the contest. If you attended last year’s conference and/or are registered for this years conference, you are eligible to be a judge. You’ll just need to commit to reading the category novels (4-5 novels) in 30 days, to judge fairly and fill out the judge sheet for each novel.

If you are interested in being a judge, please send an email to emmas@romanceslamjam.org with the name you registered for the conference under last year or this year if you have already registered.

Alice Wootson did a down right outstanding job of the Keynote Luncheon last year and guess who got it alllll on tape (SMILE). To order your copy of the DVD, go to http://www.bct6.org for the order form. The show is: The Art Of Writing- RSJ- May2, 2008

Affaire De Coeur has stepped up again to sponsor the RSJ Newsletter. I (Deatri) don’t have time for magazines. I’m too busy reading all of these novels these authors keep putting out, BUT I do have a subscription to Affaire De Coeur and I do actually read it. LOL. The novel reviews are usually on par with my taste, I love the interviews and articles…it’s just a great magazine. You know how we do. Show your support for those who actually support us. If you know of someone who is a romance or women’s fiction reader, Affaire De Coeur would make a perfect Christmas Gift or anytime gift.

That’s it for now. Registration for RSJ 2009 is open. It’s time for Romance Hollywood style.

Finally, the Romance Slam Jam Aspiring Author Contest is accepting submissions. Spread the word!
