Romance Slam Jam News May 2012
Whew howdy! All I can say is those Little Rock folks threw one heck of a Slam Jam! I truly feel sorry for those of you who missed it. I would just like to take another opportunity to thank the Sistas of Color Reading Group, Laura Parker Castoro and Gwyneth Bolton for going above and beyond to make the Slam Jam special. Every year the conference does the impossible, gets better! THANKS.
Next year, the Lovely Ladies book club and Barbara Keaton are our host for Slam Jam 2013 in Milwaukee, WI and Donna Hill is scheduled to be the keynote speaker. Don’t sleep on this conference, start making your plans now. I’ll be updating the website this month and hopefully have up the new info for June’s RSJ Newsletter.

Our April discussion was I’ll Catch You by Farrah Rochon. Farrah was such a sweetie and the book was great. If you haven’t read it, I highly suggest you pick up a copy. Our next discussion (May 26) will be a title by Chanta Rand our 2012 Emma Award Winner for Favorite Debut Author of the Year, The Highest Bidder. Chanta will be in attendance. We are also choosing our June title, so join us on Facebook to help choose.
Authors 4 Trayvon
On Feb. 26, 2012, Trayvon Martin’s life was cut short when he was shot as he walked to a family member’s home from a convenience store where he had purchased some candy. The price of candy for this seventeen-year-old child was his life. April 1-7, 2012, authors who participated in Authors 4 Trayvon donate 17% of their book sells to the Martin family. Several of our RSJ Family Authors participated and helped raise over $2000 dollars for the Martin family. Thank you (readers and authors) for your support.

Little Rock was a Ball… Sistahs of Color Book Club… Y’all ROOCKKKK!!!
Little Rock was wonderful. The Sistahs of Color made us feel so welcome. The ladies will always have a place in my heart. They were so accomodating and friendly. It was great meeting the authors and new friends that I look forward to seeing at future Slams. Also Thanks to Dee for the guidance she gives.
I will remember this always. By the way I have friends asking how can I become a member of that group so I can have fun also and meet the authors??
I thought meeting the authors was going to be the highlight of the Slam Jam, but it was meeting the members of Sistahs of Color which was truly delightful. These ladies made us feel like family. I was one of those early birds at registration table, the ladies struck up a conversation with me and had me grining from ear to ear. They ready set the mood for a wonderful reading adventure.. from the book signings to the workshops to the intimate sessions.
Scheduling the event at the Doubletree Hotel gave me the opportunity to visit two places I’ve always wanted to see, the public library and the River Market area which were both in walking distance…ladies thanks to you I lost a little weight on the trip…..and for that I am eternally grateful….to lose weight and have fun at the same time..well what can I say….I love Little Rock and the Romance Slam Jam organization. Can’t wait, aleady planning for the one in Milwaukee…..
Rosie – All I can say is WOW!!! Thank you for the kind words. We are thrilled that you loved our city and 2012 RSJ. See you in Milwaukee.
