Interview With Author L. L. Reaper

Hello RSJ family,

Here’s hoping you all had a happy and safe Memorial Day. To those of you with a birthday this month,

This month we have a lot of exciting interviews. We’re going to start with the author of the hottest new book around. Black Widow and the Sandman  Welcome, L. L. Reaper.

Dyanne: Black Widow and The Sandman is a different type of book for you. Can you tell us where you got the idea?

L. L. Reaper: Romance and women’s fiction are what I’m known for, but my romances usually have a bit of a darker side to them. Okay, I’ll say it. I’ve been known to kill folks off. There’s so much I wanted to do with my characters, but couldn’t because of genre constraints. One night I was IMing a writing buddy of mine and we were bouncing ideas off each other about characters.

Next thing you know, I had a heroine who could kick butt while still being feminine and not be apologetic about it, and he’d come up with this all too fine mercenary. Neither of us had written with a partner before, but we knew these two characters needed to be in the same series and it definitely wasn’t romance. That was the birth of Black Widow and the Sandman.

Dyanne: How did you come up with the name L.L. Reaper?

L. L. Reaper: Neither of us is known for suspense and we also didn’t want to have two authors’ names on the book. We are writing as one, so we picked a name that encompassed us and the characters. Both of our middle initials are L and Black Widow and the Sandman see themselves as Grim Reapers of sorts.

Dyanne: For this project, you have a writing partner. Can you tell us a little about him?

L. L. Reaper: For those of you who don’t know, I’m Deatri King-Bey and my writing partner in this dangerously sexy suspense is Curtis Alcutt. He has an erotic book coming out in October called Sins of a Siren, through Zane’s imprint at Simon and Schuster. Unfortunately, they don’t have the cover up yet, but Keith Marion is designing it so you know it will be good. Keith also designed the cover for Black Widow and the Sandman.

Dyanne: Did you find it hard writing with a partner? Was it easy to mesh your voices?

L. L. Reaper: I’ve never been one for outlining or following them for novels, but it was a must when writing with a partner. Once we hammered out our outline, we were good to go. We have similar writing voices and our strengths and weaknesses as authors complement each other so we are lucky. Thus far we’ve had fun with people trying to figure out who wrote what parts.

Dyanne: Do you have more projects in mind for L.L. Reaper?

L. L. Reaper: We are currently writing book two of the series titled: Hell Hath No Fury. One thing we hear consistently from reviewers and our beta readers is that Black Widow and the Sandman would be perfect for film. With that in mind we are in the market to have a pilot written for a cable series (such as HBO, ShowTime). If you all have any connections, you know how to reach me :-)

Dyanne: Without giving too much away can you tell us something about the book?  Click here for an excerpt that shows why we call it a dangerously sexy suspense.

Here’s the blurb: Children in Cuba are suffering an agonizing death. The cause, a toxin released by a terrorist organization hell bent on genocide. The scientific community is at a loss, and the Cuban government can no longer hide the truth from its citizens. Cuba’s only chance lies in the capable hands of a reclusive scientist from the country they believe is behind this terrorist attack, the United States of America.

Roman “The Sandman ” Tate is the most sought after mercenary in the world. When he is ordered to protect scientist Jeanette “Black Widow ” Mason, he finds she is much more than scientific equations. The two join forces to create an antidote and stop those responsible for the mysterious illness before more children die and Cuba follows through on its promise to retaliate.

Dyanne: I hear you have a big give away for Black Widow and the Sandman’s release. Care to tell us about it.
